PRODUCT PREFERENCES PROBED

Toward increasing U. S. consumption of California-grown rice, consumer product preferences and knowledge on rice characteristics are being studied. From these will be developed standards for use in considering not only processing but the development of strains that consumers will prefer in their various rice uses.

PROBING THE FUTURE

Financed entirely by USDA funds, the world rice situation is being studied to evaluate how the California rice industry can respond to supply, demand, and international trade: probable supplies, amounts available for export, effective demand, and expected changes in world trade patterns. Some general demand and supply data are now compiled for Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, and Indonesia, with statements in preparation on India, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
